Department of Physiology of Jiangsu University was established in 1951, the same time as the set up of Nanjing Medical Assistant School, the predecessor of School of Medicine of Jiangsu University. For more than 60 years, our Department made great contribution to cultivating thousands of medical talents. During the same time, the department also underwent self development. Now there are ten staffs in the department, including one professor, five associate professors and four lecturers. Seventy percent of our teachers have doctor’s degree. The Department of Physiology plays a central role within the Faculty of Medicine. Physiology is the study of how the body works in health at different levels including molecular, cellular, organ and whole organism. Our Department is dedicated to understanding fundamental physiological processes and translating these to clinical care. Each year, our teachers undertake the task of teaching students in the majors of clinical medicine, laboratory medicine, nursing, and pharmacy etc. Our staffs also work hard in scientific research. Their research interests include cellular signal transduction, sport physiology, nutrition, and cardiovascular physiology. The research funds come from the Natural Science Foundation of China, the Natural Science Foundation of Jiangsu Province and the Natural Science Fund for Colleges and Universities in Jiangsu Province. In recent years, our staffs published more than twenty SCI papers. The department has master program. Each year, around 5 master graduate students are enrolled to the program.
