First aid is the immediate assistance given to anyone suffering from minor/ serious injury until professional medical help arrives. It stops the conditions from aggravating and one does not require extensive medical knowledge to do it.
Since such situations are unforeseen, we believe all of us should have some knowledge about the first aid, hence, on 27th March 2021, International Medical Students Association (IMSA) in collaboration with the Chinese Medical Students Association’s (CMSA) First Aid Association, organized a First Aid training program from 19:00 to 20:30 at San Shan building, 704. This event successfully explained the various emergency situations that are likely to occur, the CPR - cardiopulmonary resuscitation technique (first aid given when the heart stops beating) and rescue breaths.
The team provided a well-organized presentation with thorough explanation, along with demonstrations of the process step-by-step.
The session initiated with several video cases showcasing sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) and the first aid that is carried out accordingly in the respective situations. Introduction on the occurrence and death rate of SCA, the various first aids given in old times in response to it and how CPR came into existence was also discussed.
After the explanation on the theoretical knowledge, OECians were given the opportunity to practice first aid on dummies with connected machines being able to judge their performances.
With active participation of OECians and Chinese, TOGETHER their immense interest demonstrated, the event ended successfully.
