Institute of Basic Medicine, belonging to School of Medical Science and Laboratory Medicine, is an institute covering research fields of molecular cell biology, genetics, physiology, anatomy and histology-embryology, patho-physiology, pharmacology and other related disciplines. It is an open research base for the teaching staff and students of Jiangsu University. The institute provides a common hardware service platform and a laboratory management platform for medical researchers in the university.
The institute has five laboratories: pharmacology research laboratory, occupation and environmental toxicology laboratory, cellular and developmental biology laboratory, neuroscience laboratory, physiology and patho-physiology laboratory.
There are 9 professors and 19 associate professors in the institute, including 3 doctoral supervisors and 15 master tutors. The institute is equipped with advanced plants and instruments, including TYPHOON-9400 molecular imaging system, SYNGENE gel imaging system, Leica DMLB2 gel inverted microscope imaging system, STRATAGENE MX-3000 real time PCR meter, UV-2500 ultraviolet Spectrophotometer, TAS-90 atomic absorption meter, Leica CM-1900 frozen sections machine, Beckman AVANTI-301 high-speed freeze centrifuge, Leica fluorescent microscope and Zeiss inverted fluorescent microscope etc. There are also an experimental animal room and an animal behavior analysis laboratory.
In recent years, the researchers in the institute have presided over 11 National Natural Science Foundation projects, more than 20 provincial and municipal projects, and participated in 3 daughter-projects of the 863 national project and 973 national project. Four awards of science and technology have been won and more than 200 papers have been published, including over 40 SCI papers. At present, the research institution has formed certain research directions, such as "the mechanisms of tumor cell proliferation and migration", "the role of neurotrophic factors and their receptors in the development of human brain glioma”, "the theory of spinal cord injury and tissue engineering scaffolds in nerve regeneration ", " food nutrition in special groups" and "the neurotoxicity characteristics of fenvalerate and acrylonitrile and related mechanism" .
The overall object of the institute is to build up an innovation research base and senior medical personnel training base through disciplinary development, interdisciplinary and disciplinary integration, and strengthening cooperation with the laboratories in foreign countries.
