Institute of Applied Psychology of Jiangsu University established in 2008. The goals of the institute were to apply its research achievements to the society, and to provide the psychological services for the economic and cultural construction in China.
There are three functions for the all of Universities in China at least, cultivating talents, scientific researching and providing special service for the society. According to the requirements of the nation and Minister of Education of the People’s Republic of China, the institute of applied psychology of Jiangsu University made full use of the advantages that the University has, such as research at the high starting point, and possessing more research achievements, to applied their psychological research to the society in time, and to play a role in the economic and cultural construction of the local government.
The institute of applied psychology focused mainly on the research of the group counseling or group psychotherapy. The head of the institute, the professor Liu Wei, learned the group counseling from Canada in the 90th of the last century, then professor Liu applied the group counseling to Chinese practice. He became a hardly pioneer in group counseling in China. He had been practicing group counseling for more than ten years and provided the service for more than 100 companied or organizations.
There are more psychological equipments instruments in the institute. There are also a 100m2 large group counseling training room and a 40m2 training room in the institute. Moreover, the institute had established a team of the group counseling. There are 8 group counselors in the ream.
The institute curried out the group psychological research, and applied for research projects actively. The institute had completed a national and provincial research project in group counseling in recent years. The institute had published more than 30 research articles and more than 8 workers related to psychology. The head of the institute, professor Liu published worker《centralized, closed and large group counseling》 last year. It is the first indigenous theory and practice worker of group counseling in China. In this year, the professor Liu was invited by Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of the People’s Republic of China to write the training criterion of national group counselor. The professor Liu has finished the training worker about group counseling in this summer vacation.
