School of medicine successfully holds the 5th Haiershi Medical Laboratory Technology Skills Competition

In order to further strengthen the proficiency and standardization of students' experimental operational skills and improve the learning interest and experimental skills of medical laboratory technology students, the "5th Haiershi Medical Laboratory Skills Competition of Jiangsu University" was held on the morning of January 9, 2020 at the Laboratory Center of Jiangsu University School of Medicine as scheduled. Professor Qian Hui, Dean of the School of Medicine, put forward the guiding idea of "promoting teaching, learning and practicing through competition" before the competition, aiming to improve the comprehensive quality and ability of students, and strive to cultivate students into excellent medical laboratory technology talents.


The competition invited Zhao Xiangdong, Vice President of Zhenjiang Third Hospital affiliated to Jiangsu University, Professor Yin Qing, Director of the Department of Medical Laboratory Technology of the Affiliated Hospital of Jiangsu University, Professor Lin Jiang, Director of the Central Laboratory of the People's affiliated Hospital of Jiangsu University,Zhang Hanyuan, Director of the Medical Department of the No.2 People’s Hospital of Zhenjiang City

and relevant teachers of the Department of Laboratory Medicine to form a team of judging experts. 37 teams totalling 148 students from Medical Laboratory Technology Class of 2018 participated in the competition, and after an intense competition, 96 students from the teams with overall scores ranked in the top 24 successfully entered the finals of the competition.

The finals consisted of 4 assessment items: "White blood cell count", "Gram stain", "Blood type identification" and "ELISA". After serious competition among the students,the finalists were awarded the Class Spirit Award, the highest class score, the group score from 1stto 6thplace, and the Gold, Silver, Bronze and Merit Awards for professional skills.

After the competition, the judges acknowledged the outstanding performance of the students, and at the same time commented on and rectified the mistakes committed by the students in the competition. The characteristics of the medical laboratory technology profession require students to not only have solid theoretical knowledge, but alsopossessproficient, standardised and professional basic laboratory operation skills. The competition provided a good platform for teachers and students of medical laboratory technology to learn from each other, communicate with each other and improve together.
